When are the results noticeable & how long do these results last?
You should notice the difference in breast volume immediately. If the procedure was due to back pain associated with very large breasts, pain relief is usually immediate. After the swelling subsides, you will begin to notice a difference in the compact appearance of your breasts.
The breast reduction surgery results last forever. However, if the patient gains a significant amount of weight, becomes pregnant, or takes certain hormones or medications, the breasts may increase in size again.
What are the major risks and complications of breast reduction surgery?
While breast reduction surgery is considered a safe procedure, there are some potential complications that could occur, as with any surgery, such as bleeding, hematoma, negative reaction to anesthesia, or scarring. Other possible problems include a change in nipple or breast sensation, inability to breastfeed, asymmetrical breasts, or uneven nipples.
How long does breast reduction recovery take?
Resuming normal activities varies from patient to patient. Some women feel comfortable returning to work or school after a few days, and some may want to wait up to two weeks. Physical activity such as exercise should be avoided for up to six weeks following the surgery to prevent scarring or delayed healing.
Results of breast implants are not permanent. They generally last between 7 and 10 years, and may need replacements after this period of time. Also breast plastic surgery results can change over time due to aging, weight fluctuations, gravity and other hormonal factors.
